Setting and striving to achieve goals moves us forward as a community. Our organization strives to “Build Ladders of Peace” in each of our four communities where we have a presence. We do this by providing families and individuals with three to five days of food. We are more than food though — anyone can provide food. We create the space for hope and relationships and in turn receive hope through relationships.
The families matter, the volunteers matter and the food matters. Creating this space is not automatic and we do so through the acquisition of food that we receive and purchase. We also pay for staff to manage it all. At times it seems like organized chaos — but they make it work and make sure the food can be given away at the pantry and on the streets.
We set the goal of $5,000 and we met it! Five thousand dollars buys a lot of food and we are grateful for those that gave. We can’t think for a minute that we’ve solved poverty – but last year we provided over 50,000 with a little more security. For meeting that goal, I’ll gladly sit for a “shearing” to give a little hair for the effort. We’re all in and we’re all in together.
