Our Pantries are Community Food Centers
Our centers build health, belonging, and social justice through the power of food. We strive to create spaces that are for everyone by combining food and other resources in a way that’s inclusive and life-changing.
Friedens transforms each of our locations from a traditional food pantry into community centers building relationships around food, a model that honors community and builds agency and leadership among members.
The community food center model is built around a mission of dignified community building through partnerships, programs, and advocacy with the goal of increasing access to healthy food, food resource management, and healthy cooking skill-building while fostering community connections and a sense of belonging. Implementing this model mobilizes community members to create positive social change that helps the community to thrive.
With over 1.3 million pounds of food distributed to our neighbors every year, Friedens aims to provide every family with 5 days of healthy, balanced meals.
At Friedens we believe that everyone has something to give and everyone has something to receive. All our clients are invited back as volunteers as everyone learns something when they spend time at our sites.
Friedens offers various forms of enrichment that support nutrition and wellness at each of our locations, with additional expansions planned as we continue to grow.
Did you know that food waste accounts for over 20% of our waste? Every year, Friedens works closely with local grocery stores, partners, and growers to recover 500,000 pounds of food that would otherwise go to waste.
Friedens Pantries exists because of the support of our neighbors
With multiple food distribution programs that distribute more than 1.3 million pounds of food to our neighbors each year and wrap-around support that helps clients achieve a sense of belonging and empowerment, Friedens Pantries aims to end hunger and create a safe space for all.
